The reference behind the reference

Go straight to the source.

Historical claims deserve a trail you can follow. We prioritize U.S. Mint releases, official program descriptions, and original reports.

Coin imagery is from the U.S. Mint, reproduced through Wikimedia Commons files identified as public domain in the United States. The site hosts its own copies. The photographs illustrate specific issues; they are not images of every year or finish.

Artists represented: Adolph A. Weinman (Walking Liberty), John Mercanti (heraldic eagle), and Emily Damstra (landing eagle, sculpted by Michael Gaudioso). Coin images are shown larger than actual size.

Artistic design studies

The year index includes three AI-assisted engraved-style illustrations created for this site from the U.S. Mint reference photographs: Walking Liberty, the Type 1 heraldic eagle, and the Type 2 landing eagle. They interpret the shared design motifs and omit dates, inscriptions, and mint marks. They are not photographs of particular yearly issues and should not be used to authenticate a coin. Enlarged views pair each study with its reference photograph.

Site branding

The eagle logo and matching medallion icon were supplied by the site owner. They are site branding, separate from the U.S. Mint coin photographs used in the reference.
